Creating the Vines

Getting Started

Creating the Vines Chandeliers & Sconces Decorative Elements

Installation  Dedication

While Frank began work on the chandelier frames, Jeff and Mario went to work forging  the vines that would entwine the pendent of the chandeliers.  The series of photos below follows the creation of a vine.

Roughing out the leaves under the 100# power hammer

Finishing a leaf at the anvil

A collection of forged leaves

From bar stock to leaf

Each leaf is welded to the stem then carefully ground smooth

Vines ready to wrap

To wrap the vines  the pendant is attached to the floor and ceiling of the shop.  It is a heat and pull process after that.

After an initial weld at the top, the heating and bending begins.

The right amount of heat must be applied to the right spot.

Finishing touches at the bottom.

The vines are sandblasted.

After coating with an industrial primer  a top coat of satin black is applied.

Hand rubbing with a silver coating brings out the hand-forged highlights.
